We live in a world where being constantly busy is viewed as a badge of honour. We wake up and rush to quickly grabbing something to eat together with the essential morning coffee. To help get us through the morning’s work ahead of us in our job. A full day of things due for completion, meetings, and the usual interruptions eating up your time. Depending on how things go you may get time for a quick lunch around 2 pm and definitely need another coffee to get through the rest of the afternoon. Maybe you’ll even need to keep on working into the evening just to get everything done. Then rinse and repeat for five days and then have two days to recover and start the cycle all over again week after week.
Have you taken the time to really think if this is really the life that you want for yourself? If you’re one of the few people that feel that your job is exactly what you were put on this earth to do and love your job that’s fantastic. However, not everyone is blessed to feel that way about their job. Many people spend their days at work thinking about when they will finish work, the upcoming weekend, or the holiday they are planning. They may have negative unresolved feelings about their job that keep on surfacing. Which they try to brush off, ignore or suppress leading to headaches, neck or shoulder pains, or worse.
If your life didn’t have to be like this, what would you love to be doing? Often people say things like sit on a beach and do nothing. Yes, this can be fun but if you’re doing it all of the time you’ll likely get bored or or run out of money first. What I am talking about is doing something that you enjoy doing that produces an income, something that inspires you. It gives you a sense of fulfillment and the time to do all of those other things you love.
Have you given yourself the time free from distractions to sit down to really think about what it is you’d love to be doing that provides you with the income you desire? If you knew you couldn’t fail what would it be? Sometimes working out what we’d love to be doing can seem a bit daunting for us. This can steam for a number of reasons it can be as simple as we’ve been so busy with our life that we haven’t given ourselves the time to think about what we’d love to be doing. It could be that what we’d love to be doing has been suppressed or repressed for so long it’s hard for us to get it to surface in our awareness.
If that’s the case then here’s some steps that you can do to help you get clearer and discover for yourself what it is that you’d love to be doing. I learned these steps from Dr John F Demartini. If you struggle creating a list then think of the things you dislike and what you love will be the opposite of those.
Now rate everything on your list from 1-5 with 1 being what you really don’t enjoy and 5 really do enjoy. Make a note of everything on your list that is higher than 3. These are the clues that will help you find what it is that you’d love to be doing to earn an income. Ponder these clues and you’ll start to formulate an idea of what it is that you’d love to be doing that you can take action on.
